Today's Route · Utility & safety · Predicts whether a sidewalk route is passable today for your mobility device, from public city data.
Today's Route Privacy Policy
This policy describes how Today's Route, developed by DreamCrafter Innovations LLC ("we", "us", "our"), handles data. It supplements our general privacy policy, which covers the website and practices common to all of our apps.
What Today's Route collects and how it's used
- Start and destination points. To plan a route, the app sends the two points you pick, and your chosen mobility device type (for example, "manual wheelchair"), to our route service. The service uses them to calculate that one route and returns the result. We do not store route requests or build a history of where you go.
- Place search (optional). If you search for a start or destination, the text you type is sent to our route service, which looks it up with Photon, an OpenStreetMap-based place search run by komoot, and keeps the results in a short-lived cache. The search text is not linked to you or stored as a history.
- Location (optional). If you tap "Use my location" and grant permission, your current position is read once and used as the start point, and it is sent to the route service in the same way. The app does not track your location in the background. If you don't grant permission, you can pick points on the map instead.
- On your device. Your mobility device type and light/dark theme preference are stored locally so you don't have to set them again.
- No account, no crowdsourcing: the app never asks you to report barriers and does not publish anything about you. It does not collect your name, email, or contacts.
Where the conditions come from
Our route service reads public data: City of Austin 311 reports, permitted street and event closures, National Weather Service alerts, and OpenStreetMap sidewalk data. None of your information is sent to these sources.
Third-party services
- Maps. The map is drawn by Apple Maps on iPhone and iPad, Google Maps on Android, and OpenFreeMap (OpenStreetMap-based) map tiles in a web browser. Your device loads map images directly from that provider, which receives your IP address and the map area you are viewing, under its own privacy policy.
- Place search. Search text is forwarded by our server to Photon (komoot, OpenStreetMap data). Your device does not contact Photon directly.
- No Firebase, analytics, advertising, or crash reporting.
Data sharing
We do not sell personal information. Route points and device type are used only to calculate your route. Our servers keep standard technical logs (such as IP address and request time) for a short period to keep the service secure and working.
Your choices
- You can refuse or later revoke location permission in your device settings. The app keeps working with points picked on the map.
- You can stop using Today's Route at any time, including uninstalling it, which removes the preferences stored on your device.
- You can request support or ask questions at contactus@dreamcrafterinnovations.com.
Children
Today's Route is intended for general audiences. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Updated versions will be posted on this page.
